How to Make a Matcha Sakura Cherry Blossom Latte

If we have to name a drink that feels like spring in a teacup it would definitely be the Matcha Sakura Latte. The fragrance of the refreshing tencha leaves combined with the hint of flowery blossom is what Matcha Sakura tastes like.

If you have ever been to Japan (especially in Spring) then you must be already a fan of Matcha and Sakura Cherry Blossom. But in case you are not familiar with these delightful and flavorful tea treats then let us fill you in.

The word ‘Sakura’ is derived from the Japanese word ‘saku’ which means to bloom, or alternatively smile/laugh, and ‘ki’ which means tree. Sakura, which is known as the national flower of Japan, symbolizes a period of renewal and the transience of life. This beautiful flower metaphor the concepts of mindfully living in the present, mortality, and fragility of life in Buddhism.

During the season of cherry blossom, people in Japan like to have parties with friends, family, and some delicious Sakura treats. Sakura powder could be a great component of tea, lattes, blended drinks, and desserts like ice cream.

Ideal for blended drinks, Matcha Moments Premium Grade Matcha is best for lattes but you can also use Ceremonial grade matcha (highest quality matcha) for this recipe.

To try out this spring special treat you just need to follow these simple steps below:


1/3 cup warm water

2 tablespoons honey/agave syrup/ white sugar

2 teaspoons of Matcha Moments Premium Grade Matcha (or Matcha Moments Ceremonial Matcha)

¼ teaspoon Sakura leaf powder

1 ½ cups coconut milk (or milk of your choice like almond milk, soy milk, or dairy milk)

For serving

Ice cubes

Coconut flakes

Edible flowers


  1. Heat the water and add sugar into it. Simmer until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat and add the matcha tea powder and Sakura powder into the water and whisk until smooth.
  3. Take two glasses and fill them with ice cubes. Divide the Matcha Sakura syrup into two halves and pour into the glasses.
  4. Whisk milk for a frothier texture and then pour it into the glasses.
  5. Sprinkle the glasses with some matcha powder or coconut flakes before serving.
